Taremi set to miss Inter’s Club World Cup due to Israel-Iran conflict

    Published on

The Iranian forward Mehdi Taremi is expected to be absent from Internazionale’s debut in the Club World Cup due to off-field issues.

The player was in his home country to play the Asian Qualifiers against Qatar and North Korea and so far has not been able to leave Iran due to the war that broke out with Israel.

The forward is stuck in the capital Tehran, after Iranian airports were blocked by Israeli Air Force attacks.

The Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport and the channel Sky reported the case this Saturday (14).

Thus, Taremi is expected to be absent from the Italian team against Monterrey, in a match scheduled for next Tuesday (17).

And possibly he won’t even be able to travel to the USA to participate in the tournament organized by FIFA.

Inter is in contact with the player and is exploring ways to get him out of the Middle East.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter “has maintained close contact with the Iranian authorities in Italy over the last 24 hours to comfort the player and attempt a solution that is currently impossible.”

The athlete is in a safe location in Tehran and protected from the bombings, as the newspaper also reported.

It is worth mentioning that Israel and Iran exchanged attacks between Thursday and Friday (13), bringing the conflict between the countries to an unprecedented level.

Which, at the moment, does not seem likely to end quickly.
