6 takeaways from Week 1 depth chart

    Published on

The Colts released their unofficial Week 1 depth chart. Here are six takeaways from it.

With Week 1 here, the Indianapolis Colts have released their first unofficial depth chart of the regular season.

Now, as always, we need to take things with a bit of a grain of salt since this is an “unofficial” depth chart. However, there are a few things we can glean from this information as well.

Below is the Colts’ Week 1 unofficial depth chart on both offense and defense, along with a few quick thoughts.

    • WR: Michael Pittman Jr., Ashton Dulin
    • LT: Bernhard Raimann, Luke Tenuta
    • LG: Quenton Nelson
    • C: Tanor Bortolini, Danny Pinter
    • RG: Matt Goncalves, Dalton Tucker
    • RT: Braden Smith, Jalen Travis
    • TE: Tyler Warren, Mo Alie-Cox, Drew Ogletree, Will Mallory
    • WR: Josh Downs, Anthony Gould
    • WR: Alec Pierce, Adonai Mitchell
    • QB: Daniel Jones, Anthony Richardson Sr., Riley Leonard
    • RB: Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Goodson OR DJ Giddens

    – In that RB2 role, I would imagine that we see both Goodson and Giddens this season. Based on what we saw from these two in camp and the preseason rotation, it did look like Giddens was ahead of Goodson in that pecking order, but as an incoming rookie, I wouldn’t be surprised if Giddens is eased in either.

    – Luke Tenuta is listed as Bernhard Raimann’s backup, but Jalen Travis is the swing tackle–he will fill in at both tackle spots. I would guess that Dalton Tucker is the backup left guard as well.

Indianapolis Colts Week 1 depth chart on defense

    • DE: Kwity Paye, Tyquan Lewis, JT Tuimoloau
    • DT: DeForest Buckner, Neville Gallimore, Adetomiwa Adebawore
    • NT: Grover Stewart, Eric Johnson II
    • DE: Laiatu Latu, Samson Ebukam
    • WLB: Joe Bachie, Cameron McGrone, Segun Olubi
    • MLB: Zaire Franklin, Chad Muma
    • CB: Charvarius Ward Sr. Johnathan Edwards
    • FS: Camryn Bynum, Rodney Thomas II
    • SS: Nick Cross, Daniel Scott
    • N: Kenny Moore II, Mekhi Blackmon
    • CB: Xavien Howard, Jaylon Jones

    – No real surprises here, but the depth chart confirms what we thought at a few positions. For one, Joe Bachie is starting alongside of Zaire Franklin. During camp, Lou Anarumo did mention rotating players at times, so I’ll be interested to see if it’s only Bachie next to Franklin or if others get in the mix in certain situations.

    – Then at cornerback, Xavien Howard is starting opposite of Charvarius Ward as expected.

    – JT Tuimoloau is listed behind Tyquan Lewis, but I don’t think it’ll take long for the rookie to surpass the veteran in playing time.

Indianapolis Colts’ Week 1 special teams depth chart

    • P: Rigoberto Sanchez
    • PK: Spencer Shrader
    • H: Rigoberto Sanchez
    • LS: Luke Rhodes
    • KR: Anthony Gould, Ashton Dulin
    • PR: Anthony Gould, Josh Downs

    – As we saw during the summer, the return man roles belong to Anthony Gould, which was one of the reasons that the Colts drafted him in 2024.
